Joannes Bernardus tho Söbern was born on or a few days before 1 March 1692 in Osnabrück, son of Jorgen tho Söbern and an unknown wife.[1] He was baptised on 1 March 1692 in the cathedral of Osnabrück, Dom St. Petrus. [1] His godparents were Bernd Pagenstecher and Johan tho Sobern.[1]

Joannes Bernardus (48) married Margaretha Barbara Ellbrecht (28) (born on 7 February 1712 in Osnabrück, Osnabrück, Heiliges Römisches Reich; daughter of Joannes Henricus (Eckebracht) Ellbrecht and Catharina Maria (Sprehe) Eckebracke) on 9 October 1740 in St. Alexander, Wallenhorst, Iburg, Osnabrück.[2] Their witnesses were Joannes Stephanus Sprehe and Joannes Henricus Sudhoff.[2]

Their known daughter was Margaretha Sibylla Eleonora Bernardina Süvern (born 11 November 1742).[3]

Joannes Bernardus Süveren died at the beginning of Spring in 1755.[4] After his death, Joannes Bernardus had been buried in the catholic church cemetery of St. Alexander in Wallenhorst (without the knowledge of the church record keeper of the Cathedral of Osnabrück), although the deceased was legally supposed to be buried in the cemetery of the Cathedral of Osnabück.[4]

On 7 June 1755, Süveren's widow, Margaretha Barbara (Ellbrecht) Süveren (residing at the Everskotten) paid the following expenses for her husband at the Cathedral of Osnabrück:

  • 7 schillings for travel costs,
  • 15 schillings and 9 pfennigs for the burial,
  • 10 schillings and 6 pfennigs for tolling the bell,
  • 5 schillings and 3 pfennigs for a mass offering,
  • 7 schillings for the schoolmaster, and
  • 9 pfennigs for the crucifix – making a total of 2 thalers, 4 schillings, and 3 pfennigs.[4]

About a week later, she married her second husband Joannes Stephanus Wessel.
